Letting go of "Perfect"
Share
I used to believe that everything I did had to be perfect, until I realized that perfect doesn’t exist and my best was good enough. Take this business, for example. I cant tell you how many times I tried to dip my toes into the entrepreneurial pool, and I abandoned every single one of those attempts when whatever I produced failed to live up to my impossibly high standards. Except this one. I first picked up metalsmithing as a hobby several years ago. I immediately fell in love with the process, and thought maybe I could make it a side-gig, just something to make extra money. As time went on, I realized that I wanted to make it my full-time career, and once I let go of the need to be perfect, the magic started to happen.
Now, I get to spend all day making jewelry inspired by nature and fantasy. I can enjoy reading some cozy fantasy book, or get lost in an epic fantasy like the Lord of the Rings series or a George R. R. Martin book, and be inspired to make the greatest fantasy jewelry of all time, things like dragon-eye potion bottles pendants or a necklace decorated with mountains and the moon. I really enjoy what I am doing now, and something that I previously would have labelled "imperfect" is actually really, really great. And who knows...maybe the jewelry I make will become fantasy inspiration for someone else.
